The problems of airports after the fall of OLT Express lines
After the fall line OLT Express Polish airports can get into big financial trouble. Company should pay airports about several million zlotys. Airports have little chance of recovering the money. According to the head of the Association of Regional Airports, Arthur Tomasik, this problem concerns all airports, of which operated this line. Next week comes to a meeting between representatives of regional airports management companies in order to discuss the situation after fall OLT Express lines.
That would be to think about what steps should be taken to recover funds from the carrier. According Tomasik, airports could assert claims through the courts, but this form will not be effective because the company OLT Express made several requests for bankruptcy. In case of announcing bankruptcy, airports can count on money from the bankruptcy estate but it seems that the lines did not have the assets OLT is able to cover all debts.
With the bankruptcy of the carrier there was a huge gap in connections in Polish aviation market. Fortunately, there will be carriers who wish though in part to fill this gap, eg. Eurolot, which is expanding national network of connections. As indicated by Artur Tomasik, lines OLT Express successfully convinced the Poles relatively low-cost air transport opportunities in the country. Eurolot would take advantage of this chance , which has increased its activity and started the connection eg from Katowice Gdansk.
Importantly, despite the offer of domestic flights should soon zoom in, it will be difficult to expect that the ticket prices will be comparable to those offered by OLT Express. Experts argue that ticket prices must be result of economic calculation so domestic flights will continue to have affordable prices but certainly the prices will be higher than before.
OLT Express Lines formed in 2011 through the acquisition of the investment fund Amber Gold a majority stake in the two airlines (OLT Jetair and Yes Airways). According to the OLT Express, from April to June this year about 320 thousand passengers used this lines to travel. The company employs 800 people, including cabin crew, mechanics, aircraft maintenance, staff administration or call center. According to the carrier, from April to June of income was about 47 million zlotys. OLT Express plans to launch European connections from October.
